Movement and breath, moving as one.

Vinyasa links postures through breath, so movement and transitions form one continuous practice.

In practice, this means your inhale lifts you, your exhale grounds you, and the transitions between postures become part of the practice rather than interruptions to it. The result is something that feels more like a moving meditation than an exercise class — even while it’s building genuine strength.

At Phoenix, our Vinyasa classes range from accessible flows for relative beginners to more dynamic practices for those with experience. Classes vary in pace; check the timetable description or ask us which one fits.

If you’ve been curious about yoga but worried it might be too still, too slow, or not enough of a challenge — Vinyasa is a good place to start.

Sarah teaches Vinyasa at Phoenix.

Sarah Gero brings a rare combination of precision and warmth to her Vinyasa classes. She teaches the transitions as carefully as the poses themselves — because in a flow practice, how you move between shapes matters as much as where you land. Her sequences are intelligent and purposeful, and her cues have a way of landing differently each time you hear them.

Francesca, Georgia, Ellen, Juliet, Maeva and other teachers each approach Vinyasa differently. All link movement with breathing and offer options for the people in the room. Meet all our teachers →

What an hour of Vinyasa in this studio actually feels like.

A flowing standing yoga class at Phoenix Yoga

The music is building. You’re three poses into a sequence. Your breath is doing the work. Somewhere around minute twenty, you stop thinking.

You walk in off Upper Richmond Road, shoes off, mat down. The teacher cues the first few breaths. By the end of the warm-up you’re already present in a way that’s hard to manufacture anywhere else. Then the flow begins — and the sequence carries you.

Vinyasa at Phoenix moves at a pace that builds heat and rhythm. Your teacher offers options — always — so you can push further into a bind or dial back to something more grounded, whichever the body needs today. You leave the room warm, a little wrung out, and notably calmer than when you arrived. The combination is slightly mysterious and entirely reliable.

More than a workout.

Vinyasa works the body and calms the mind at the same time. Here’s what regular practice tends to bring.

Functional strength

Vinyasa builds whole-body strength through repeated transitions — particularly in the core, arms, shoulders and legs. The kind that shows up in everyday life.

Flexibility & ease

Regular practice gradually releases tension held in muscles and connective tissue. Most people notice improved range of motion within weeks.

Mental clarity

Focusing on breath and movement together has a genuinely meditative effect. Many people find Vinyasa is the most effective way they’ve found to switch off.

Vinyasa is a good fit if…

Our Vinyasa classes are genuinely open to all levels. Here are some of the people you’ll find in the room.

You want yoga that challenges you physically, not just stretches you out

You’re looking for a mindful alternative to the gym

You’ve done a bit of yoga and want something with more movement

You find it hard to sit still and want meditation through movement

You’re brand new and want to try a dynamic style from the start

You want a regular practice that builds on itself over time

Common questions

Vinyasa is a flowing style of yoga where postures are linked by breath. Each inhale and exhale cues a movement — creating a continuous, rhythmic sequence rather than a series of held poses.

Yes, with the right class. Our Vinyasa classes are taught with clear options for every level, so whether it’s your first time or your hundredth, you’ll always have somewhere to meet the practice. If you’re completely new, you might also like to try a class from our beginners guide first.

Hatha tends to hold poses for longer, with a focus on alignment and stillness. Vinyasa links movements together with breath, creating a warmer, more dynamic practice. Both are valuable — many people do both.

Yes — Vinyasa builds genuine strength, particularly in the core, arms and legs, while also developing flexibility and body awareness. Most people find it both challenging and meditative.
