A little older. Hopefully a little wiser. Still making the tea.
On 1 August, Phoenix Yoga turns three!
Three years since we opened the doors and began building something that, at the time, we could only partly imagine.
We knew we wanted Phoenix Yoga to be a place where excellent teaching and genuine human connection belonged together. A place where people could take their yoga seriously without having to take themselves too seriously. Somewhere you could arrive knowing nobody and, before too long, find yourself being greeted by name.
What we could not have predicted was everything that our community would bring to it.
Over the past three years, thousands of classes have been taught, countless cups of tea have been made, friendships have formed and people have supported one another through all sorts of beginnings, endings and everything in between.
There have been first classes and hundredth classes, teacher trainings, workshops, community classes and conversations that continued long after everyone was supposed to have gone home.
Some people came to Phoenix Yoga for their very first class. Others arrived after years of practice. Some have trained with us, taught with us or taken yoga beyond our walls and into the wider community. Many simply found a regular hour in the week that felt like theirs.
Every one of those stories has helped shape Phoenix Yoga.
We have never wanted to open a second studio, or even become the biggest yoga studio. We have always wanted to become a really good one, though!
A studio rooted in its community, serious about its teaching and generous in the way it welcomes people.
Three years in, that remains the plan.
There is plenty still to do. There are more classes to teach, more ideas to explore and almost certainly more tea to make. But this anniversary feels like a good moment to pause and say thank you.
Thank you to every teacher who has shared their knowledge, care and personality with us.
Thank you to everyone who has helped behind the scenes.
And, most of all, thank you to every person who has walked through our door and made Phoenix Yoga part of their life.
Phoenix Yoga is not simply a room, a timetable or a collection of classes. It is the people who keep turning up—for themselves and, often, for one another.
We are enormously proud of what we have built together.
Here’s to the first three years.
Onwards and upwards.
