Our new website is live.
It has taken rather longer than the first one.
The website we built in three days
The old website was conceived, designed, built and launched in three days in July 2023, while we were in crisis mode trying to open Phoenix Yoga. It gave people the essential information, but we barely touched it over the following years—there was always something more important to do!
It did the job we needed it to do. It could tell you when a class started, how much it cost and where to find us.
But while Phoenix grew, the website largely stood still. It became harder for it to show the people, stories, small acts of hospitality and sense of shared ownership that make Phoenix feel like Phoenix.
So, as the studio reaches its third anniversary, we are giving it a new front door.
What we have built
This has not simply been a case of giving the old site a fresh coat of paint and moving a few buttons around—although quite a few buttons have, in fact, been moved around.
We have created a clearer, warmer and more human way to explore Phoenix Yoga.
It should now be easier to understand:
- what Phoenix Yoga is and why we exist
- which classes, courses or workshops might suit you
- what to expect on your first visit
- who might be teaching or welcoming you
- how our pricing and introductory options work
- what your membership helps make possible in the wider community
- what is happening in the studio beyond the weekly timetable
We have also made more room for the stories behind Phoenix: where we came from, the people who shape the studio and the community that continues to build it.
The practical information matters. People need to find a class, understand the price and know what to do next without needing to conduct a small research project.
But a first visit usually comes with more human questions:
Will I feel comfortable there?
Do I need to know what I am doing?
Will anyone notice that I cannot touch my toes?
Is this a place for someone like me?
A good website cannot completely answer those questions. Only the real experience can do that. But it can make the first step feel easier.
What we wanted it to feel like
Long before someone reaches the studio, meets a teacher or accepts a cup of tea, they will probably have spent time looking at us online. That experience should feel connected to what happens when they arrive.
We wanted the new website to sound more like us: warm, clear, honest and occasionally willing to smile at itself.
We wanted it to show that Phoenix Yoga takes yoga seriously while remaining a very human place to practise it.
We wanted fewer broad promises and more real people, useful details and honest answers.
Most importantly, we wanted the website to feel less like a noticeboard and more like an open door.
Come and look around
We hope first-time visitors find it easier to decide where to begin. We hope newer members discover more of what is available. And we hope those who already know Phoenix recognise the place—and the people—they have helped to create.
The website will keep growing as we share news, introduce teachers and tell more community stories. It will never replace the conversations, relationships and experiences that happen in the studio. Nor should it.
Its job is to bring people a little closer to them.
So please have a look around. More importantly, we hope the new website encourages you to walk through the real front door.
There will probably be tea.
Onwards and upwards.
