What we could not have predicted when we opened was everything our community would bring to Phoenix.
Once we got over the deer in the headlights stage we decided we wanted to become a really community yoga studio: rooted in Putney, serious about the teaching and generous in the way we welcome people. Three years in, that is still the plan.
Thousands of classes have been taught. People have arrived for their first ever class, returned after years away, trained with us, taught with us and taken yoga into schools, hospitals, safehouses and the wider community.
There have been beginnings, endings and difficult weeks. There have also been fundraisers, new friendships, deeply ordinary Tuesday evenings and those classes that somehow give you exactly what you needed. My favourite phrase is from a regular -
"Some days yoga feels amazing. Some days you just feel shit but you're glad you came. Both are worth it."
We're not simply a timetable or a room full of mats. It is you the people who keep turning up - for themselves and, often, for one another. We are enormously proud of what we have built together. Thank you all!
